With proper groundwork and the odd re-seal every few years, an imprinted concrete driveway will last for decades. It is one of the most durable driveway finishes there is.
Any concrete can move, which is why we reinforce it and cut expansion joints in the right places. Done correctly, cracking is rare and the jointing controls it if the ground shifts.

Give it a wash down when it needs it and re-seal every three to five years. That keeps the colour rich and the surface protected against the weather.
A quality sealer carries a fine anti-slip grit worked into the final coat, which keeps the surface grippy in frost and rain. Without that additive a sealed drive can feel slick, so we specify it as standard on slopes and shaded areas. Textured patterns such as riven slate also help underfoot compared with smoother finishes.
We would not print straight onto old concrete or tarmac. The pattern is pressed into a fresh, wet slab, so a new pour is needed to take the imprint and the colour through the surface. If your existing base is sound it can sometimes serve as a sub-base, but we check drainage and falls on a free visit first.
Because the surface is one continuous slab with no joints, weeds have nowhere to root, which is one of its main advantages over block paving. Keeping the seal intact stops moss and algae taking hold in damp Fenland conditions. An occasional jet wash and reseal is usually all the weed control the drive ever needs.
